JP Morgan's initiative


The Interbank Information Network (IIN) is a consortium of 75 banks which have adopted JP Morgan's JPM coin as their payment system to move a total of $17T per day for their customers
These are in fact payment systems relying on a highly secure distributed ledger platform. The distributed ledger (DL) is either a blockchain or a hedera hashgraph ledger, using cryptography algorithms. JP Morgan's JP Coin is one such system.
At the other extreme is bitcoin, a financial instrument and because it is not issued by the Central Bank is falsely marketed as a currency., a legal tender. It is not. This is why, legally, its transactions are treated as a money transfer instrument and are solely used because of its extremely secure electronic transfer technology, the blockchain. Once the transaction reaches the beneficiary, it can be converted at a fixed predetermined rate, into a real currency, generally the dollar.
Very few licenses have been granted by regulators to set up exchanges to trade bitcoins. In China, these have been banned
